We’ve had a GREAT first week of Camp Speak Learn & Play! Check out what we’ve been up to:
In Occupational Therapy/Movement with Cristina, we learned about self-regulation and worked our sensory systems with a bunch of fun activities and games. We played Musical Tires, and had fun stretching out the body band. We practiced our organizational and executive functioning skills on a few multi-step obstacle courses. We jumped and crashed to give ourselves full body input. And we played some old-school favorites like Red Light/Green Light and Duck Duck Goose to practice self-control.
In Play Therapy with Amy, we exercised our emotional muscles and stretched our imaginations. We started each group with a “feelings check-in,” practicing labeling our own feelings and listening to the feelings of others. We practiced sharing, turn taking, and negotiating using the Playmobil toys (pirate ship, house, circus, hospital, and space shuttle were all very popular choices this week!). We explored themes of good vs evil with the superheroes, and worked on our caretaker skills with the dolls and doctor kit.
In Speech Therapy with Jenn, we exercised our pragmatic language, sequencing, and descriptive language skills. We played cooperative games like Mine Craft Blocks, Pete the Cat and the Missing Cupcake, and the Lego Challenge. We read Big Bad Bubble and sequenced our own bubbles. And we read Narwhal Makes a Sandwich and had a sandwich-making relay of our own.
In Art with Nora, we stretched our creative muscles with a lot of painting – canvases and lanterns. On the playground, we played “Shark Island” and loved playing in the sprinklers. And we had a lot of great read-alouds this week: Miss Nelson Is Missing, A Bad Seed, Secret Pizza Party, The Legend of Rock Paper Scissors, Even Superheroes Have Bad Days, and After the Fall.
Thanks so much for sharing part of your summer with us!
See you soon…
